Graham Norris Joins "HR on the Offensive" Podcast to Champion Long-Term Thinking for HR Leaders

Graham Norris, organizational psychologist, futurist, and speaker, recently appeared as a featured guest on HR on the Offensive, the podcast produced by HR consultancy LACE Partners. Joined by host Chris Howard and co-host Debbie Mitchell, Graham shared his framework of eight future-thinking aptitudes, including curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, open-mindedness, strategic foresight, systems thinking, and collaboration, offering HR and Chief People Officer (CPO) audiences a practical lens for navigating an increasingly complex and uncertain world of work. Graham drew on his background spanning financial journalism, marketing, and a doctorate in organisational psychology to argue that the most effective leaders are not simply those who adapt to change, but those who anticipate it.

A central theme of Graham's contribution was the psychological barriers that prevent individuals and organizations from thinking beyond the immediate term — what he described as an "allergy to uncertainty" that keeps decision-makers focused on short-term, predictable outcomes. Using his signature analogy of a dog that looks both ways before crossing the road, Graham made the case that HR professionals who develop genuine strategic foresight — scanning for drivers of change, building vivid alternative scenarios, and communicating those possibilities confidently at the leadership table — can reposition themselves not just as people officers, but as indispensable drivers of long-term organizational strategy.
